Job Summary
Conduct on-site surveys of Medicare-Medicaid certified health care facilities to determine compliance with Federal regulations, including tours, record reviews, and interviews of staff and families. Evaluate aspects of the healthcare facility system from quality of care to consumers' rights, communicate non-compliance issues to key personnel, and determine if plans of correction are acceptable. Lead follow-up visits to monitor implementation of corrective actions and assist with facility and bureau training. Requires CMS Long-Term Care Basic Training and SMQT certification, an Associate or Bachelor's degree in nursing, and at least two years of surveyor experience. Travel up to 75% of the time nationwide. Salary ranges from $75,000 to $90,000 annually.
Required Qualifications
- CMS's Long-Term Care Basic Training
- SMQT certification
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in nursing
- Successfully completed CMS's Long-Term Care Basic Training and passed the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT)
- At least two (2) years of recent experience working as a surveyor accrediting or certifying facilities that serve the residents of long-term care facilities
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Independent decision-making skills to direct and effectively manage the survey process
- Ability to set priorities independently and collectively in performing survey tasks
- Ability to openly discuss conflicts/controversy, and to seek assistance when appropriate to make decisions and resolve conflicts
- Travel up to 75% of the time on a regular basis
