Job Summary
Registered Nurse First Assistant in Open Heart Surgery provides intra-operative support to physicians, including draping, suturing, clamping, and exposure of the surgical field. The role involves care for patients across age groups and surgical modalities (including robotics) within the unit's scope, documenting care in medical records, delivering medications safely, and assisting with nursing duties, on-call as required, and serving as a preceptor to new staff while maintaining communication with families and the surgical team.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida
- Minimum of 2 years in perioperative nursing (scrub and circulating nurse)
- Successful completion of a Registered Nurse First Assistant course approved by a Florida Board of Nursing provider
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Knowledge of nursing process and application in health care
- Intermediate computer knowledge: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows
