Job Summary

Organize and facilitate patients in the operating room, coordinating care between surgeons, anesthesiologists, and staff. Perform first assistant duties during surgical incisions, excisions, and repairs, including handling tissues, clamping vessels, suturing, and placing drains. Assist with patient transfers, positioning, prepping, and draping while maintaining sterile fields and aseptic techniques. Conduct sponge, needle, and instrument counts; verify surgical sites before anesthesia induction. Document nursing diagnoses, interventions, and discharge plans. Mentor staff and identify cost-saving opportunities. Requires RN licensure, RNFA certification, CNOR certification, and CPR/BLS/PALS credentials. BSN and two years perioperative experience preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice
  • Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) certification in the state of practice
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from approved vendor per AH policy
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy
  • All required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable
  • E-Verify participation acknowledgment

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Two years' perioperative nursing experience
  • Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Status (PEARS)/Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy
  • Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) membership
