Job Summary
Position patients to maximize exposure and comfort during surgical procedures, utilizing stabilizing equipment as needed. Implement physician orders to visualize the operative site through tissue manipulation, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation. Achieve hemostasis and assist with body plane closure, wound dressing application, and securing drainage systems. Apply evidence-based practice to ensure care aligns with patient age-specific and clinical needs. Maintain constant alertness while performing assigned duties. Requires two years of registered nurse experience in an advanced surgical specialty, completion of an AORN-standard RNFA program, and current BLS, RN, and CNOR certifications. Variable shifts include 40 weekly hours.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program or RNFA education equivalency for CRNFA
- Two years' registered nurse experience in an advanced surgical specialty
- Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication
- Constant standing and walking
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs
- Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors
- Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors
- Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs
- Occasional lifting/moving of patients
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements
- Occasional driving
- Rare crawling and running
