Job Summary
Administer patient care in an emergency setting where patients require timely, intense, and complex care to stabilize and support their medical conditions. Monitor and adjust specialized equipment, interpret electronic displays for intracranial and cardiac pressures, and respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol. Prioritize patient care using evidence-based practice, delegate tasks to team members, and document all assessments, medication administration, and treatments consistently. Operate ECMO equipment under direction, manage ECLS circuits, administer blood products, and ensure continuous coverage for extracorporeal life support patients. Interpret data to anticipate changing conditions, collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams, and serve as a preceptor or educator for new team members. Maintain regular attendance and compliance with hospital policies while attending mandatory quarterly simulations and staff development meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing
- Current State of Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license
- Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification
- ACLS certification
- NRP certification
- PALS certification
- TNCC certification
- 1 year experience

- Experience with ensuring that the patient on ECMO has adequate perfusion, corrects for proper acid-base balance, and provides for hemodynamic stability within ordered parameters
- Experience with performing required technical skills with efficiency, accuracy and safety while anticipating, troubleshooting, and managing crises and emergency situations according to policy and procedure
- Experience with performing scheduled, un-scheduled, and emergency ECLS in the hospital setting
- Experience with operating all ECMO equipment under the direction of MD/perfusion providers
- Experience with monitoring and optimizing the ECMO circuit and related equipment during the management period
- Experience with accurately administering blood products and medications through the ECMO circuit when ordered
- Experience with managing any equipment when connected in-line with ECMO circuit
