Job Summary
Conduct 12-hour emergency room nursing shifts, organizing and directing patient care using the Watson Model of Care. Perform nursing assessments, prioritize tasks, and anticipate clinical changes to alter care plans as needed. Execute hourly rounding, document assessments and interventions, and communicate patient status updates via SBAR to physicians and team members. Coordinate interdisciplinary discharge planning with Care Managers and provide basic hygiene and activities of daily living. Supervise ancillary staff, floats, and orientees while maintaining a clean, survey-ready environment. Ensure department readiness for patient census fluctuations and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Associate in Nursing, Nursing Diploma, or equivalent
- Bachelor of Sciences degree in nursing preferred
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience in Emergency Department nursing
- Internal candidates that have successfully completed the MLKCH Nurse Residency Program or Transition Fellows program or similar will be considered
- Current California Nursing license
- Basic EKG Competence
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Must complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate, per hospital policy, during initial training/orientation but not to exceed 30 days from hire/transfer
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Sciences degree in nursing preferred
- Certification in Emergency Department Nursing preferred
- Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish)
- Basic computer skills
- Electronic Medical Record experience preferred
