Job Summary
Conduct 12-hour accountability for organizing, planning, directing, and providing high-quality, individualized patient care in the Emergency Department for a defined group of patients. Perform nursing assessments, prioritize care, and ensure follow-through while utilizing the Watson Model of Care to address age and population-specific needs. Manage interdisciplinary discharge planning with Care Managers, communicate condition changes to physicians via SBAR, and conduct hourly patient rounding. Maintain a safe environment, document care per hospital policies, and supervise ancillary staff including floats and orientees. Provide basic hygiene and ADLs, ensuring the department remains survey-ready and flexible to census shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Associate in Nursing, Nursing Diploma, or equivalent
- Bachelor of Sciences degree in nursing preferred
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience in Emergency Department nursing
- Internal candidates that have successfully completed the MLKCH Nurse Residency Program or Transition Fellows program or similar will be considered
- Current California Nursing license
- Basic EKG Competence
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Must complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate, per hospital policy, during initial training/orientation but not to exceed 30 days from hire/transfer
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Sciences degree in nursing preferred
- Certification in Emergency Department Nursing preferred
- Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish)
- Basic computer skills
- Electronic Medical Record experience preferred
