Job Summary
Assess, plan, direct, and evaluate nursing care for patients in the emergency department by performing accurate multi-system assessments, identifying deviations in lab diagnostics, and classifying acuity levels. Initiate protocol-based measures for medical and surgical patients, accurately document care in the EMR, and administer medications while coordinating discharge planning with hospital and community agencies. Evaluate treatment responses and participate in unit quality assurance activities. Requires one year of current ED experience or completion of the New Grad Internship Program, a registered nurse license, and certification in the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course or Pediatric Advanced Life Support within six months of hire. Variable working days.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience
- One (1) year of current ED experience or successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente New Grad Internship Program in the ED
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course within 6 months of hire OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire
- Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certificate within 3 months of hire
- Basic Life Support
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Computer keyboarding skills
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course
Desired Qualifications
- Previous health care experience
- Bachelors degree in nursing or related field
- CEN preferred
- TNCC preferred
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias preferred
- A desire and ability to function within the nursing process preferred
- A desire and ability to function within professional and personnel standards as defined
- Ability to use and apply effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills preferred
