Job Summary
Deliver direct, patient-centered nursing care in the Emergency Department, General Medical, or ICU while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team and in-house physicians. Manage patient care using the nursing process, critically think to address conditions ranging from minor to critical, and communicate effectively with patients, families, EMS, law enforcement, and other healthcare providers. Teach patients and families across all age levels and negotiate with team members to ensure safe delivery of care. Work 12-hour varied shifts, including every third weekend and holiday, with a weekly schedule of 24 hours.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program
- Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred
- Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing in Minnesota
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Required certifications on hire or within six months may include: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Trauma Training Equivalent (e.g. MDH Trauma Modules, etc.), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
- Must be able to critically think and be self directed to manage patient care
- Must be able to collaborate and negotiate with team members
- Must be able to patient (and/or families) teach to all age levels
- Must be able to communicate effectively to health care providers, families, and patients and other involved providers, i.e. law enforcement, EMS, Crisis intervention team members, other healthcare workers
- Must have strong customer services skills and be adept with communication to collaborate with patients/families/visitors and other departments/facilities
- Must be able to effectively lead and coach others
- Strong attention to detail
- Must be available for weekend shifts
- Must be available for holiday shifts
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Valid driver's license
