Job Summary

Provide all levels of care to pediatric and adult patients with complex medical conditions across emergency, intensive, step-down, and acute settings. Transport critical and cardiac monitored patients, assist with patient lifts, place difficult IV therapy catheters, and support procedural conscious sedation. Serve as a consult to bedside nurses, expedite admissions and transfers, and participate in Code Blue, Stroke, STEMI, Sepsis, and Rapid Response Teams. Utilize independent judgment in applying the nursing process in home department and ancillary clinical areas. Perform other duties as needed based on business requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum three years of clinical experience in adult intensive care or emergency nursing
  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation
  • Ability to speak, read and write legibly in English
  • Ability to use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program
  • Ability to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment
  • Ability to perform technical patient care activities
  • Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others
  • Ability to be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies

  • Must be able to provide all levels of care (emergency, intensive, step-down, acute) to pediatric and adult patients with complex medical conditions
  • Must be able to function as a member of the Code Blue, Stroke, ST Elevation Myocardial Infarctions (STEMI), Sepsis and Rapid Response Teams
  • Must be able to function out of a home department
  • Must be able to readily accept patient care assignments throughout the organization
  • Must be able to support patient care needs including, but not limited to, transporting critical and/or cardiac monitored patients, assisting nurses with patient lifts, placing difficult intravenous therapy catheters, performing procedural conscious sedation support and serving as a consult to other bedside nurses with complex patients and expediting admissions, transfers and discharges
  • Must be able to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in critical care and sedation
  • Must be able to utilize interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care and professionalism
  • Must be able to contribute to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population
