Job Summary
Prepare the operating room by setting up sterile equipment, opening packs, and verifying supplies before surgery begins. Review patient medical history, confirm consent, assess the patient, and educate them on expectations prior to transport. Assist anesthesia with intubation, patient positioning, and extubation while providing the surgeon with necessary supplies. Document the case accurately, ensure medications are administered correctly, label specimens, and manage inventory counts. Clean the room, dispose of biohazards, and restock carts between cases. Maintain compliance with infection control, OSHA, TB testing, fire safety, and code protocols. Requires current RN license in IL or WI, BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications, plus one year of nursing experience with OR background preferred. Work in an ambulatory surgery center with evenings, weekends, and physical demands including lifting up to 100 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent in Nursing from a two-year college or technical school
- Current and unrestricted RN license for the state you will be practicing in (IL or WI)
- BLS certification
- PALS certification
- ACLS certification
- A minimum of one year of experience nursing experience
- Previous OR experience preferred
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft and Google suites
- Basic working knowledge of EMR systems
- Consistent work hours outside of normal business hours including evenings and occasional weekends
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Requires lifting, carrying, or moving heavier objects (i.e. pushing or pulling up to 100 pounds and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds)
- Full range of motion in shoulders and arms, including reaching above or below the shoulder
- Finger dexterity for typing on a keyboard and using a mouse for extended periods of time; ability to twist hands or wrists repetitively
- Good balance
- Vision (e.g., depth perception, color vision, strong vision up close); hearing (e.g., high pitch sounds, soft or distant sounds)
