Job Summary
Conduct patient care, charting, and continuous communication with surgeons and anesthesiologists during operating room procedures. Provide explanations, verbal reassurances, and therapeutic responses to patient behavior while assessing cardio-respiratory systems and medication effects. Perform treatments within one hour, manage airway equipment, and ensure aseptic techniques for medical and surgical procedures. Support room turnovers and setup to improve workflow, with on-call requirements including a 20-minute response time and housing accommodations. Coordinate patient care and teach families as necessary, maintaining confidentiality and professional rapport across departments including PACU and endoscopy.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Utah
- Current BLS certification
- Current PALS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- On-call availability with a 20-minute response
- Housing accommodations availability if needed
- Excellent attendance record
- Ability to wear appropriate clothing for job functions
- Ability to wear ID badge
- Ability to maintain a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, administration, and staff
- Ability to represent the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Ability to comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
- Ability to approach the patient in a kind, gentle, and friendly manner
- Ability to give patient explanations and verbal reassurances consistently
- Ability to respond to the patient's inappropriate behavior in a therapeutic manner
- Knowledge of perioperative factors that alter the immediate postoperative phase
- Ability to utilize nursing procedures as a medium for communication and interaction with the patient
- Ability to identify physical symptoms and changes and take appropriate action promptly
- Ability to complete treatments as ordered or within one (1) hour, if appropriate
- Knowledge of airway management and procedures and the ability to use the equipment
- Ability to assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide appropriate treatment
- Ability to observe behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, take appropriate actions, and document
- Ability to adjust and act upon expectations of the patient's behavior, according to the effect medication has on the patient
- Ability to provide specific care to postoperative neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Ability to carry out medical/surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures
- Ability to carry out established techniques for safe administration of medications and parenteral fluids, according to hospital policies and procedures
- Ability to follow the five (5) medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors
- Ability to carry out safety measures to prevent the patient from harming him/herself or others
- Ability to coordinate patient care; give explanations and teaching to patient/family, as necessary
- Ability to protect patients' sensitivities and right to privacy
- Ability to ensure that appearance and personal conduct are professional at all times
