Job Summary
Administer nursing care, medications, injections, and treatments to clients as authorized by policy and licensure. Educate clients on healthy lifestyle choices, diagnoses, and medication reactions individually and in group settings. Schedule and coordinate medical appointments, perform weekly blood draws, and act as a liaison with pharmacy and lab personnel for supply reconciliation and insurance authorizations. Monitor client conditions, report behavioral changes to the treatment team, and provide training to staff on medication room procedures. Take the lead in emergent situations, arrange emergency transportation, and assist in crisis interventions while maintaining accurate electronic documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Current CA RN license
- BLS certification
- Current licensure by the California State Board in Nursing
- Valid California Driver's license
- Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier
- Experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
- Experience with the management of aggressive and assaultive behavior
- Completion of clinical rotation in Psychiatric Nursing
- Completion of curriculum Pharmacology Class
- Knowledge of all medications, with emphasis on psychiatric medications
- Basic understanding of legal aspects of mental health including confidentiality holds probable cause hearings and patients' rights
- Ability to handle encounters with clients who may be unstable, angry, hostile, agitated, or intoxicated by alcohol or street drugs, in an appropriate and effective manner
- Proven ability to work with adult patients
- Ability to work independently, use good judgment, and remain calm in crisis situations
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- Employee will be required to lift and/or move unassisted up to 25 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- BSN preferred
- Experience working in a residential facility is a plus
