Job Summary

RN Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist provides evidence-based diabetes education to patients and family members/caregivers, develops and reviews diabetes education materials, and promotes self-management to achieve individualized goals. Works with MLKCH ambulatory clinics, participates in the Diabetes Care Committee, and ensures alignment with ADA guidelines. Responsibilities include clinical leadership in diabetes education, group presentations, staff in-services, and documentation in the medical record, using adult learning principles to tailor education to learners. Requires California RN license and CDCES certification (within 6 months of hire); minimum 2 years’ nursing and 2 years’ diabetes education experience in inpatient/outpatient settings. Per Diem role based in Pasadena, CA; bilingual Spanish preferred; BCLS; EHR experience preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
  • California Nursing license current
  • CDCES certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience and two (2) years diabetes education experience (inpatient and outpatient)
  • CDCES eligible considered with requirement to pass within 90 days of start
  • Experience with an EHR preferred
  • Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
