Job Summary
Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in the assigned Behavioral Health area, assessing needs, developing individualized care plans, and accurately documenting activities. Recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly using clinical judgment within the scope of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. Utilize Crisis Prevention Intervention skills, including verbal de-escalation, restraint, and seclusion procedures, while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team, and appropriately delegate responsibilities to LPNs, technicians, and nurse externs. Serve as a resource for newly hired and supplemental staff while completing required orientation and ongoing competency training. May be required to rotate shifts based on departmental needs.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of an accredited registered nursing program
- Current Illinois RN license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross prior to hire
- Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification or willingness to complete CPI within 30 days of hire
- Ability to successfully complete competency training in restraint, seclusion, and take-down procedures upon hire and as required on an ongoing basis
- Understanding of the physical, social, and psychological needs of adult and geriatric patients
- Ability to provide safe, compassionate, and individualized patient care
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to assess, prioritize, delegate, and coordinate patient care effectively
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
- Basic computer skills and ability to use applicable software programs
- A positive, team-oriented attitude and commitment to treating patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers with respect
- May be required to rotate shifts based on departmental needs
