Job Summary
Perform pre-commissioning checks, visual inspections, and functional tests to verify equipment installation and operation on new or upgraded fire trucks. Commission hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems using specialized tools and software while troubleshooting root causes of issues in these subsystems. Diagnose and repair mechanical problems related to hydraulics, pneumatics, or electronics, then adjust and calibrate components to achieve optimal performance. Maintain detailed records of all commissioning activities, test results, and troubleshooting steps. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other technicians to ensure smooth processes, assist in training employees on complex assemblies, and perform other duties as required by management.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- 3 years of experience working as a mechanic, heavy equipment technician diesel mechanic, service technician, commissioning technician, or a related field
- Able to read and work from blueprints/spec books
- Able to read and understand a tape measure accurately
- Able to follow written and verbal directions
- Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Able to perform simple computer tasks to obtain information/changes related to the build process and/or troubleshoot
- Able to identify quality issues, recognize changes within the production process, and adjust as needed
- Able to prioritize work and to multitask while adhering to deadlines
- Able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment
- Able to understand and follow all safety policies to promote a safe working environment for all
- Driving license
- Own vehicle
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends occasionally
- Overtime as needed to meet the needs of the department
- Local travel
- Overnight travel
- Prolonged periods of travel
- Successful completion of a pre employment drug screening
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree in mechanics, heavy equipment technician, diesel mechanics, service technician, commissioning technician, or a related field
- 5 years of experience working as a mechanic, heavy equipment technician diesel mechanic, service technician, commissioning technician or a related field
- Manufacturing experience
