Risk Control Technical Consultant, Field

Job Summary

Maintain a consistent field presence, spending 20% to 50% of time onsite with customers to evaluate hazards, controls, and risk management strategies for complex, multi-location accounts. Partner with Underwriting to select and grow profitable books of business by differentiating accounts within similar classes. Complete technical risk assessment evaluations for diverse businesses including manufacturing, large warehouses, and multi-location fleets, then write detailed reports articulating clear risk assessments and recommendations. Identify uncontrolled exposures through loss analysis to influence customers on corrective actions and provide loss control solutions using available resources. Stay current with technical subject matters, regulatory environments, and emerging issues to create a valued customer experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, basic sciences and related technical fields
  • Strong level knowledge of insurance industry and business acumen
  • Recognized relevant certifications (such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CFPS)
  • Technical aptitude, detail oriented
  • Superior communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with all others
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Influencing skills that effectively drive business needs
  • Negotiating change to achieve optimal outcomes
  • Ability to give and receive coaching and feedback
  • Five years of experience in safety, risk control/management, or a related field, such as occupational/environmental health and safety, science, engineering, construction, manufacturing, or relevant military experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must have or be able to attain appropriate certification to meet state-specific requirements, where applicable
