Job Summary
Evaluate load weight, size, and center of gravity to determine safe lifting procedures. Select and prepare rigging gear including wire ropes, chains, slings, and hoists, then securely hitch loads to cranes and winches. Inspect all lifting tools and safety lines before and after every use to detect wear or defects. Direct crane operators using precise hand signals or radio communication to maneuver loads through tight spaces. Assist in erecting, leveling, and dismantling mobile cranes, scaffolding, and temporary platforms. Strictly adhere to company protocols and OSHA regulations to eliminate workplace hazards. Requires NCCO Level 1 certification and 2–3 years of heavy rigging experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational training
- NCCO Certification: Minimum Level 1 Crane Rigger Certification
- Minimum of 2–3 years of proven field experience working directly with heavy rigging equipment in industries like construction, manufacturing, shipyards, or mining
- In-depth understanding of OSHA safety standards and high-risk work compliance
- Strong depth perception and spatial awareness to visualize how massive components will navigate physical site constraints
- Proficient in calculating load distributions, weight capacities, and angles of lift to prevent equipment failure
- Capable of standing, bending, performing heavy manual labor, and lifting up to 50 lbs regularly in varying, demanding weather conditions
- Confident working safely at significant elevations, such as atop structural steel framing or towers
- Excellent communication skills to work fluidly in coordination with lift supervisors, signalpersons, and multi-disciplinary crews
