Job Summary
Determine load weight and center of gravity, select proper sling and rigging hardware, and apply standard hand and voice signal communications. Inspect rigging equipment and execute safe load securing methods while adhering to crane operation principles, basic math, and safety protocols. Complete a 12-week classroom program from Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, followed by approximately one month of field days. This apprenticeship at Southway Crane & Rigging LLC trains individuals to grow within the crane and rigging industry.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/ or GED
- Driver's License
- TWIC card
- Ability to pass drug screen/ background check
- How to determine a load's weight
- How to determine a load's center of gravity
- How to select proper sling and rigging hardware
- The effect of sling angles
- The proper methods of safe load securing
- How to select proper hitches and their applications
- Standard hand and voice signal communications
- How to inspect rigging equipment
