Job Summary
Special Education Teacher (General Curriculum) at Rome City Schools is responsible for providing specially designed instruction to students under IDEA, directing ESS Paraprofessional activities to support IEP goal mastery, maintaining confidentiality of student records, and collaborating with families, colleagues, and administrators. The role requires leading IEP meetings, interpreting materials, and ensuring compliance with federal/state regulations. The position emphasizes on-site work, teamwork, attendance, and professional communication. The candidate must hold a GAPSC Special Education license/certifications and have prior teaching experience (3 years) in general or special education, with preferred Elementary or Middle/Secondary certifications. The role involves supporting students with disabilities and coordinating services in a multi-disciplinary team.
Required Qualifications
- Valid GAPSC license with special education certification or endorsements: Clearance Certificate
- Required Certification: Special Ed General Curriculum (P-12) Consultative [FLD 798]
- Preferred Certifications: Elementary Education (P-5) – [FLD 808] or a Middle Grades or 6-12 Content Area
- Three years of successful teaching experience as a general education or special education teacher
- Meet the needs of stakeholders tactfully and courteously
- Punctual and exceptional attendance
- Ability to work independently, yet collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to lead teams in decision-making
- Exhibit positive interpersonal skills necessary to deal with diverse publics and colleagues
- Essential duties related to providing specially designed instruction under IDEA
- Maintain student confidentiality and monitor confidential files
- Attend in-person staff meetings and professional development
- Mandatory reporting of child abuse and ethics breaches
- Prompt attendance on-site during regular hours
- Maintain records pertaining to eligibility, services, and progress
- Comply with IDEA timelines, procedures, and guidelines
- Facilitate IEP Meetings with multi-disciplinary providers
- Perform other duties as assigned
