Job Summary
Review residential and commercial appraisals, evaluations, broker price opinions, and automated valuation models for completeness, accuracy, methodology, and supportability. Independently test and validate valuation conclusions using market evidence, identify unsupported assumptions, weak comparables, and material deficiencies, then develop independent recommendations of property value. Return deficient reports for correction or clarification and present clear, defensible valuation recommendations to credit and investment committees. Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior analysts while handling complex or unusual properties on an ad hoc basis. Maintain consistent appraisal review standards and support audits, regulatory reviews, and litigation involving collateral valuations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in real estate, finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in real estate appraisal, appraisal review, collateral valuation, underwriting, credit, asset management, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience reviewing both residential and commercial real estate appraisals
- Strong knowledge of the sales comparison, income capitalization, and cost approaches
- Experience evaluating comparable selection, market adjustments, income and expense assumptions, capitalization rates, highest and best use, and value reconciliation
- Experience with distressed, transitional, nonperforming, foreclosed, or complex real estate
- Strong analytical, written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and challenge unsupported valuation conclusions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, public records, property databases, listing platforms, mapping systems, and market research tools
- State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser credential
- MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, ASA, MRICS, or another recognized appraisal designation
- Stable, reliable internet connection
- Professional and dedicated remote working environment
Desired Qualifications
- Real estate appraisal or appraisal review, particularly residential and commercial properties
- Commercial real estate lending, mortgage lending, credit underwriting, or collateral risk management
- Asset management, special assets, distressed debt, foreclosure, or REO involving complex or transitional real estate
- Experience with portfolio lenders, banks, private credit, or other financial institutions
- Experience supporting credit/investment committees, loan workouts, property dispositions, or other decisions involving real estate collateral
- Experience reviewing distressed, nonperforming, foreclosed, transitional, or otherwise complex collateral preferred
- Working knowledge of USPAP and applicable appraisal independence and regulatory standards
- State Certified General Appraiser license strongly preferred
- Experience with commercial properties, mixed-use assets, or cases where competing valuation sources disagree
- Ability to handle complex or unusual properties on an ad hoc basis
