Job Summary

Resolve complex tax return issues unaddressed by teammates and answer processing questions from management and staff regarding tax programs. Communicate with taxpayers, accountants, attorneys, and other authorized representatives via written correspondence and phone calls to resolve filings. Monitor teammates' daily performance, provide input for evaluations, and conduct extensive one-on-one training. Identify internal software issues for IT resolution and create procedures for assigned processes while suggesting system changes to improve accuracy and efficiency. Plan, direct, and assign work with limited supervision. This advanced role supports the Department of Revenue's specialized tax analysis work in Lincoln, NE.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in business
  • Two years of experience with tax return preparation
  • Experience with business ownership and operation
  • Experience with account research and analysis
  • Experience with interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience with tax return preparation
  • Experience with business ownership and operation

  • Experience with interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules, or regulations
  • One-year experience in researching and analyzing tax returns
  • Experience in interpretation of tax policies, laws, rules, or regulations
  • Knowledge of leadership/supervision principles and practices

  • Knowledge of business operations and practices
  • Knowledge of information technology
  • Knowledge of resources available for researching laws, rules regulations
  • Ability to identify trends and/or unique sets of data
  • Ability to recognize priorities

  • Ability to plan, assign and monitor the work of others
  • Ability to manage and set multiple priorities
