Job Summary
Manage authorization management for non-emergency transports by reviewing cases to identify appropriate payors and determining if authorizations are required. Work with Communications to provide guidance on required paperwork, request authorizations, and ensure adequate service levels are dispatched. Process customer complaints quickly by receiving, investigating, redirecting, or resolving issues while maintaining a bin for payor requirements. Convey an attitude of intolerance for unprofessional behavior and develop relationships with AMR professionals and external clients. Requires EMT certification, one year in medical billing, and full-time shift hours on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and alternating Wednesdays from 6am to 6pm.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum 1 year work experience in medical billing
- Prior authorization experience
- Minimum typing speed of 50 WPM
- Work experience with computer programs and software
- Knowledge of HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley and other critical governmental regulations
- Working knowledge of various tools including but not limited to basic Microsoft Office software, QWERTY keyboard use, basic computer function
Desired Qualifications
- EMT certification/licensure or medical experience
- Work experience with general public
- Work experience in medical industry
- General knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology
- Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid guidelines related to ambulance billing
