Job Summary
Verify, input, and retrieve financial data transactions in computer systems to ensure information integrity. Classify records, summarize numerical data, and compile financial records using ledgers and journals. Calculate bills, invoices, account statements, and other financial statements according to established procedures. Comply with organizational, Federal, and state policies related to accounting, taxes, and fees. Perform financial calculations for amounts due, interest charges, balances, and discounts. Prepare bank deposits by compiling data, verifying receipts, and sending payments to banks. Review and approve general ledger entries, customer invoices, and new customers in the ERP system. Create customer invoices, apply payments to accounts, and resolve complex billing issues. Establish and maintain customer and department financial records while handling adversarial situations with customers. Monitor delinquent accounts, ensure compliance with statutory requirements, and review taxpayer accounts for timely billing.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma
- Three years of experience in para-professional accounting, bookkeeping or other revenue-related accounting work
- An Associate of Arts degree with at least 12 semester hours of accounting (can be substituted for two years of experience)
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Typing at a speed acceptable to department needs
- Working knowledge of current state laws related to fee and tax collections and associated mandatory requirements
- Knowledge of and ability to process account billing
- Knowledge of financial operations and bookkeeping principles and standard office terminology, procedures, routines and equipment
- Knowledge of, and ability and willingness to apply, appropriate and applicable accounting principles and procedures, and applications to accounting functions
- Knowledge of, and ability to enforce, local ordinances, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of keeping accounting records
- Knowledge of business English and arithmetic
- Ability to learn and apply more complex principles of accounting rules and regulations
- Ability to skillfully operate computers and relevant software and other business machines
- Ability to analyze semi-complex utility accounting, billing system and payroll problems
- Ability to make mathematical calculations with reasonable speed and accuracy
- Ability to work and attend meetings outside regular business hours
