Retention Marketing Strategist Contractor

Job Summary
Retention Marketing Strategist for an initial 3-month contract role to lead retention marketing across email and SMS for a portfolio of eCommerce clients. Design, build, test, and optimize campaigns and automations (welcome, abandoned browse/cart/checkout, post-purchase, win-back, loyalty) in collaboration with copywriters, designers, and account managers. Develop strategies to increase customer lifetime value through segmentation, personalization, and lifecycle mapping; translate goals into actionable plans, testing roadmaps, and performance benchmarks. Monitor KPIs (revenue, engagement, conversion, deliverability, list growth) and conduct A/B tests to drive improvements; present strategy, results, and recommendations to clients; ensure deliverability and compliance with CAN-SPAM, TCPA, GDPR. Preferred experience with Klaviyo, Attentive, Postmark and familiarity with Shopify/Shopify Plus; agency experience managing a portfolio of eCommerce clients.
Required Qualifications
- 2-4 years’ hands-on experience in retention, lifecycle, or email/SMS marketing for eCommerce brands (agency experience strongly preferred)
- Proven experience building and optimizing email and SMS campaigns and automated flows
- Strong understanding of segmentation, personalization, and lifecycle marketing strategies
- Experience analyzing performance metrics and using data to inform strategy and optimization
- Ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including client-facing presentations
- High attention to detail and strong project management skills
