Job Summary
Greet pet parents and answer questions throughout the store while engaging with customers in person, over the phone, at the sales register, and online. Prepare online orders for in-store pick-up and ensure a smooth experience. Maintain total store cleanliness standards, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats for birds, reptiles, small animals, crickets, and fish. Stage and sort new products to match sales floor planners, face and fill merchandise to meet standards, and recommend services and live pets. Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian and take immediate action when a sick or injured pet is identified, transporting them to a vet as needed. Support the store with weekly price changes, monthly promotional pricing, and special events like adoption weekends.
Required Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility in schedule, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure
- Associate required to stand, walk, climb a ladder, and use hands to handle, feel, hold, write, etc
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception
- Associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally team lift and/or move more than 100 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception
- Associate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, as well as a wet environment with an abundance of pet hair
- The noise level is moderate in the work environment; however, associates may be exposed to high levels of noise at times
- Exposure to live animals and their handling is common
- Applicants must be over the age of 18 (except in Montana or where otherwise required by local or state law)
