Job Summary
Retail Pharmacy Technician supports licensed pharmacist with technical duties in medication preparation and distribution, including selecting, labeling, and packaging medications (including hazardous drugs and controlled substances), assisting with inventory, procurement, and documentation; handles receptionist duties via phone etiquette, data entry for patient demographics and insurance verification, and may participate in immunizations and training of technicians; may assist in quality improvement and carry out additional duties as assigned; must meet state board licensing requirements and obtain CPhT or ExCPT certification within 18 months; operates within USP standards and adheres to organizational policies; may require travel between pharmacy locations as needed; schedule includes rotating shifts with some weekend and holiday hours.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certification / Registration / License with state board of pharmacy per state of employment requirements
- Must receive Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT) certification within 18 months from start date
- No work experience required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of inventory control and data entry into pharmacy system
- Ability to perform nonsterile compounding per USP standards and sterile IV admixture where applicable
- Ability to immunize (if certified) under supervision of pharmacist
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle to deliver medications (if required)
