Job Summary
Procure and distribute drug orders, maintain medication inventory, and process insurance claims while preparing prescriptions and reconstituting oral suspensions. Perform daily automation duties, make local deliveries, and receive prescriptions to check their validity. Assist the public by answering inquiries and educating patients about medications, while sterilizing surfaces and equipment. Contribute to quality improvement activities and foster a team environment through orientation and training of new members. Work Monday through Friday with rotating weekends, reporting to pharmacy managers under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Required Qualifications
- Current IL Pharmacy Tech License
- Pharmacy Technician Certification
- High School diploma or equivalent
- State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician License
- Must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job
- Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times
- Ability to work cooperatively with pharmacy staff
- Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule
- Ability to set priorities and solve problems
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- Ability to interact and assist the public (customers, patients)
- Must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job
- Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (including chemotherapeutic, cytotoxic drugs and cleaning solutions), sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items
- Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used
- Potential for exposure to infectious patients or material negligible
Desired Qualifications
- College courses desirable but not required
- Two or more year's pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required
