Job Summary
Manage the retail department at Young Life's Saranac Village camp, operating stores, snack bars, and coffee shops approximately 75% of the time while leading a team of interns and volunteers. Develop annual spiritual growth plans for staff, create ministry statements, and ensure Christ-like hospitality through proactive guest service and team training. Oversee financial stewardship by managing budgets, analyzing reports, and conducting physical inventories to maintain accurate stock levels. Enforce national standards for cleanliness, appearance, and safety while executing daily operations, seasonal merchandising, and theft control practices. Lead the 25% of the role dedicated to marketing and theming camp environments to support the broader evangelism mission.
Required Qualifications
- Professionally believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord
- Subscribe to the Young Life Statement of Faith
- Be ready, willing and able to fulfill ministry functions
- Refrain from conduct and statements that detract from biblical standards
- Abide by all policies and practices of Young Life including those related to religious belief or ministry activities
- Sign a Statement of Faith
- Demonstrate proficiency in using Point of Sale [Square], Office, Outlook and other software applications
- Maintain ServSafe and First Aid/CPR certifications
- Previous business or retail experience
- Fluency with Microsoft Office applications and an ability to learn and use all Young Life internal systems
- Experience training and leading teams
- Demonstrate professionalism in written and verbal communication with guests, vendors, and staff
- Demonstrate understanding of Young Life ministry, strategy and mission
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
- Must be able to squat, kneeling and ladder use
- Must be able to work in outdoor work environments
- Must have some travel required
- Must be available for evening and weekend shifts
- Must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff
- Must be able to work with and minister to volunteer high school and college-age young people
Desired Qualifications
- College degree or equivalent
- Previous business or retail experience preferred
- Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process
- Participate in camp events which will include outdoor work environments
- Proper knowledge and use of cleaning chemicals
- Passion for retail
- Relationally and spiritually minded leader
