Restoration and Stormwater Inspection Environmental Scientist/Specialist | South Bend, IN

Job Summary
Inspect habitats, assess natural and disturbed conditions, and identify local species to develop appropriate restoration solutions for clients. Perform invasive plant control, native plant installation, streambank stabilization, and prescribed burning while operating heavy equipment like spray rigs, augers, and chain saws. Conduct NPDES stormwater and SWPPP inspections on construction and maintenance projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory permits and erosion control BMPs. Train and mentor teammates while representing the company at professional meetings. This hybrid role supports ecosystem restoration and stormwater services for government, utility, and commercial clients.
Required Qualifications
- Two to four year degree in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Forestry, Horticulture, Hydrology, Soil Science, Zoology or related discipline or equivalent experience in a similar position
- Master's degree or advanced education
- Driver's license and clean driving record
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Possession of or willingness to obtain an Indiana State Chemist Certified Pesticide Applicators License
- Prescribed burn experience and S130/S190 certification
- Native plant identification
- Training in chain saw, brush saw, and 4x4 ATV/UTV
- Experience performing NPDES stormwater and/or SWPPP inspections on construction or maintenance projects
- Working knowledge of NPDES permitting requirements, erosion and sediment control BMPs, and stormwater compliance documentation
- Experience supporting NPDES compliance for linear infrastructure, ditch maintenance, construction, or utility projects
- Familiarity with SPCC plans, chemical handling, and waste management best practices
- Experience with ditch maintenance, mowing programs, log removal, skid steer, and excavator operation
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs or Google Suite of Applications
- Teamwork-oriented
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Professional work ethic with attention to detail and safety
- Up to 25% travel
