Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapy Assistant - Student supports the Respiratory Therapist by assisting in a non-clinical fashion to provide respiratory care to patients at St. Boniface Hospital. Under supervision, you will work in the Respiratory Services unit, perform tasks that enable patient care, and participate in on-the-job training. The role requires strong English communication, basic computer skills, and the ability to multitask and collaborate with healthcare teams. Physical duties include lifting up to 45 lbs and pushing wheeled equipment. The position emphasizes independence, initiative, and mature professional behavior, with opportunities for development during a six-week rotation scheduling arrangement. Duties are performed in-person within the Winnipeg, MB facility, with rotation across days, evenings, and weekends as part of a non-conforming schedule. SPECIAL TRAINING: on-the-job training (up to 6 months) provided by the Respiratory Therapy Department. INTERVIEW stage may include a skills assessment. Required Qualifications
- Manitoba High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Currently enrolled as a 2nd or 3rd year student in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Education program (Preference for Max Rady Faculty of Health Science: Respiratory Therapy Program)
- On-the-job training (up to 6 months) provided by Respiratory Therapy Department
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal)
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and work with professional staff at all levels
- Demonstrated leadership qualities
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Ability to adapt to changing demands and situations
- Physically able to lift up to 45 lbs and push wheeled equipment
- Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check required as conditions of employment
