Job Summary
Conduct ongoing respiratory care in an interdisciplinary setting for patients with tracheostomies and acute or chronic respiratory illnesses. Perform cardiac diagnostic tests including Electrocardiogram, stress testing, and Holter Monitoring for analysis and interpretation. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to enhance patient and family quality of life while adhering to Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists standards. Maintain clinical competence through approved research projects and committee participation. Assess patient responses to care, adjust to unexpected events, and utilize department policy and procedure manuals. Operate applicable equipment and software applications within a patient and family centred care model.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada Credentialing Exam
- Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
- Completion of additional coursework and clinical training in conduction of ECG, Holter Monitor and Stress Tests
- Broad knowledge of CSRT standards of practice and clinical practice guidelines
- Broad knowledge of current respiratory care theory and practices within a patient/family centred model of care
- Basic knowledge of research process and methodology
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement care plans
- Demonstrated ability to assess patient responses to care, and to respond appropriately
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and deal effectively with patients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and independence
- Demonstrated ability to use the department policy and procedure manual
- Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies
- Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques
- Demonstrated ability to operated equipment including applicable software applications
- Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized patient care information system
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position
