Job Summary
Supervise Respiratory Therapists and EKG Technicians by coordinating schedules, managing staff activities, and serving as a resource for medical and respiratory care teams. Conduct chart audits for quality reviews, ensure appropriate medication administration and security, and maintain Blood Gas Analyzers and department equipment. Provide direct patient care in the assigned pediatric area, adapting communication styles to respect privacy and explain procedures clearly. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards while reporting any safety or privacy concerns. Work Mon–Fri in a hospital setting requiring heavy physical exertion and exposure to blood or hazardous medications.
Required Qualifications
- Must either be a graduate of an Accredited Respiratory Care Program or grandfathered in by the state of practice
- 2 years' experience as technician or therapist in general adult care to adequately and effectively counsel subordinates
- Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
- Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Must be able to work in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases
- Must be able to work in a healthcare setting with occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste
