Job Summary
Coordinate and supervise schedules and activities of Respiratory Therapists and EKG Technicians while serving as a resource to the Respiratory Care staff and Medical Staff. Conduct chart audits for all quality reviews, ensure appropriate administration and security of medications, and maintain Blood Gas Analyzers and department equipment. Provide care based on physical, psycho-social, educational, and safety criteria appropriate to the patient population, adapting communication styles to respect privacy and explain procedures clearly. This role requires three 12-hour day shifts and includes heavy physical demands involving lifting in excess of 100 pounds occasionally. The incumbent must remain knowledgeable on federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and compliance programs, including immediate reporting of unethical behaviors or patient safety concerns.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an Accredited Respiratory Care Program or grandfathered in by the state of practice
- 2 years' experience as technician or therapist in general adult care
- Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
- Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to lift 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, or 20 pounds constantly
- Ability to work in an area with exposure to blood, body fluid, tissue, and communicable diseases
- Ability to work with hazardous medications or hazardous waste
Desired Qualifications
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association
