Respiratory Therapist-Reg

Performs independent comprehensive respiratory assessment and therapy as prescribed by a physician; provides patient and family with respiratory therapy education; prepares, operates, and maintains respiratory care equipment. Responsibilities include reviewing patient data, documenting respiratory therapy data, assessing cardiopulmonary status, interviewing patients, performing and interpreting bedside procedures (ABG, pulse oximetry, non-invasive monitoring), obtaining data (lung compliance, airway resistance, work of breathing), selecting and checking equipment, quality control of devices, explaining therapy goals to patients, communicating results to the care team, arterial blood sampling, monitoring and adjusting mechanical ventilation, weaning considerations, airway management including endotracheal tube positioning, administering aerosol therapy, and initiating/modifying respiratory care techniques in emergencies. Requires Associate's Degree or equivalent, respiratory therapy program certificate, and NYS license, with at least 1 year of clinical experience preferred. Location: Staten Island, NY area.
