Job Summary
Provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to in-patients and out-patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. Set up, monitor, and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation while drawing, analyzing, and reporting arterial blood gases and EKGs. Deliver intermittent therapy, assist with changing artificial airways, and perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy. Review and document all clinical information, educate patients and co-workers on procedures and treatment plans, and adapt communication styles to specific patient populations. Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ensure compliance with Ochsner Health System standards. Work a flexible schedule including 24/7 coverage, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability in a patient care area with potential exposure to blood and body fluids.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Current State of Louisiana License as a Respiratory Therapist
- Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity
- Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability)
Desired Qualifications
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
