Job Summary
Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care to residents in a long-term care setting, setting up and monitoring oxygen therapy including continuous positive airway pressure and BiPAP for cardiopulmonary patients; maintains and orders supplies for these devices; educates patients and staff on cardiopulmonary issues, inhaler use, smoking cessation, and disease management; assesses inpatients and referrals for appropriate respiratory services, participates in care planning, documents in the EMR, and assists with emergency care such as CPR; collaborates with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care and supports ventilator care.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a high school graduate
- Must have a college degree from an AMA approved respiratory therapy program
- Must have a valid license from the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board
- Must be dependable, flexible, and able to work and cooperate well with all nursing personnel, other departments and have understanding, patience, and tact in working with patients, families, doctors, and others
- Must have ability to make decisions regarding nursing problems
- Must be able to teach, instruct and direct orientation, continuing education, in-services as needed
- Must read, know, and follow personnel, department and Facility policies and procedures and adhereto local, state, and federal requirements
- Must have working knowledge of the rules and regulations related to Long Term Care
- Must have Long Term Care experience
- Must have neat professional appearance at all times
