Job Summary
Administer IPPB therapy, perform humidity and aerosol treatments, and manage continuous mechanical ventilation while maintaining artificial airways. Conduct arterial blood gas sampling, perform complex pulmonary function testing, and operate analyzers to monitor oxygen saturation. Execute cardiorespiratory resuscitation, electrocardiography testing, and medical gas procedures. Serve as a lead practitioner with minimal supervision, acting as a knowledge resource to physicians and staff on respiratory care techniques. Develop individual exercise routines, instruct patients and families on self-care, and implement infection control protocols. Respond to emergency calls throughout the hospital and clean respiratory therapy equipment. Maintain current RRT registration and California licensure; BLS certification required within 60 days.
Required Qualifications
- American Heart Association Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card
- RQI Provider certification
- Registered with the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Valid, current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, issued by the State of California
- Specific certificates of competency
- Class C California Driver's License
- Knowledge of operating principles of commonly used types of ventilators and respiratory care equipment, including intermittent positive pressure breathing apparatus, nebulizers, humidifiers and oxygen analyzers
- Knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology, electrocardiography testing and related equipment used in testing and diagnostic studies
- Knowledge of the chemistry of gases in respiratory therapy
- Knowledge of symptoms common to patients suffering respiratory ailments
- Ability to learn and conduct diagnostic tests such as EEG, EKG, Pulmonary Function and Echocardiograms
- Ability to explain and teach others the fundamentals of respiratory therapy, cardiopulmonary services, electrocardiography testing and related procedures
- Ability to use respiratory equipment and how to adjust the equipment to individual patient needs
- Ability to implement goal oriented ventilator management with close interaction with physicians and nurses
- Ability to interpret arterial blood gas results and recommend appropriate action so timely therapy changes can be made
- Ability to understand hospital routine and organization
- Ability to work with medical staff and patients
- Possession of a current valid California Driver's License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119)
- Possession of a current valid California Driver's license, a signed authorization for Release of Drivers Record Information and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119)
