Job Summary
Assess, plan care, and educate patients receiving respiratory services while developing treatment plans and maintaining medical records. Interpret cardiac arrhythmias on ECGs, recognize ischemic changes, and intervene on dangerous signs. Deliver pulmonary rehabilitation education, instruct families on cardiac disease prevention, and participate in quality improvement programs. Operate equipment including apnea links, Holter monitors, PFTs, and BIPAP setups; perform ABGs, intubations, and nebulizer treatments. Document progress in electronic systems and communicate with physicians and agencies. Requires board certification, BCLS/ACLS, and a driver's license.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a program in Respiratory Care
- Board Certified in Respiratory Care
- Advanced knowledge in interpreting cardiac arrhythmias and recognizing ischemic changes on ECG
- Proficiency in general respiratory care
- Ability to demonstrate use of exercise equipment and techniques
- Ability to have a good relationship with people of all ages and to adapt teaching skills to a variety of physical disabilities
- High degree of independent decision-making ability
- Current BCLS and ACLS certification
- Current Iowa driver's license
- Moderate physical activity
- Occasionally stopping, twisting, fine manipulation, frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, reading, and repetitive grasping
- Occasionally exposed to cleaning agents/chemicals
- Occasional exposure to infectious disease
- Participates in the delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation education and exercise sessions while evaluation and developing treatment plans for assigned patients
- Maintains a medical record of patients receiving services, documenting patient progress, including critical events and resolutions of these events
- Communicates verbally or in writing with patients and families, other department, physicians, other health care providers and other appropriate agencies
- Increase knowledge base to be able to skillfully instruct patients and families in cardiac disease and its prevention
- Recognizes and interprets potentially dangerous signs and symptoms and intervenes appropriately
- Participates in Quality Improvement program
- Maintains all paperwork for patients
