Job Summary
Direct shift assignments and workflow planning using EMR staffing reports to assess and re-deploy respiratory care levels. Ensure standardized handoffs for patient care services and escalate safety or outcome issues as appropriate. Maintain documentation of safety events in the Safety Event Reporting System and research evidence-based practices to correct patient safety issues. Mentor staff in advanced technical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving strategies to intervene in complex patient care situations. Assist with orientation and technical competency for new hires, medical staff, and respiratory care students. Maintain RRT and NBRC credentials while participating in performance improvement processes.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or other related field
- Graduate of a school of Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or successor accrediting authority
- Three (3) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
- One (1) year directly related critical care experience
- Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state in which work is practiced
- Register Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- NBRC credentials must be maintained
- BLS
- AARC Membership
- NRP, STABLE, PALS, ACLS, NPS, etc. certifications
- Knowledge of general respiratory therapy practices
- Knowledge of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies
- Ability to demonstrate practical respiratory therapy skills and proper use of patient care equipment
- Ability to provide appropriate population specific care
- Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient's needs
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, and protocols
- Must be proficient in all areas of critical care within the area employed
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Specialty Certification/ECMO or Transport Team (ACCS, RPFT, ECMO Specialist, NPS, Transport Cert, etc.)
- For Children's Hospital Shift Coordinators must have NPS must be obtained within 6 months to one year
- AARC Membership - Preferred
