Job Summary
Perform therapeutic, diagnostic, and emergency respiratory care procedures, providing assessment, treatment, and evaluation for patients with respiratory insufficiencies. Implement patient care plans based on physician orders while exercising sound clinical judgment. Gains patient cooperation through competent assessment, attentive monitoring, and effective communication. Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations to ensure privacy and safety. May orient other staff to the department and function effectively in emergency situations. Work independently within a team environment, prioritizing assignments and meeting deadlines. Shifts include nights with rotating weekends. Full-time, non-exempt status with 36 weekly hours.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a two-year respiratory care program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)
- CA Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Certification through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) Certification through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification
- ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
- PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification
- 2 years of recent relevant experience
- Knowledge of respiratory therapy principles, procedures, views, and equipment
- Experience responding to traumas and various hospital emergencies
- Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Capability to perform routine or emergency respiratory care
- Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
- Written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people
- Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines
- General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), electronic health records (EHR), and EPIC
- Ability to work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions
- Ability to identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options
- Ability to ensure the privacy of each patient's protected health information (PHI)
- Ability to function effectively and perform this position in an emergency situation
- Rotating Weekends availability
