Job Summary
Provide resident-focused support to clients living with mental illnesses in program residences or the community. Build rapport, coach and mentor individuals to increase independence and safety, assist with daily living activities (hygiene, medication management, cooking, meal planning, cleaning, budgeting), develop strategies to sustain daily activities and recovery plans, orient new clients, participate in intake, and support house operations. Facilitate resident meetings, coordinate activities, monitor residents' whereabouts, manage petty cash and rents, assist with maintenance, teach fire safety protocols and safety checks, liaise with social services and healthcare systems, provide 24-hour crisis support on a rotating basis, promote psycho-social rehabilitation and harm-reduction approaches, mediate conflicts, and contribute to program records and planning. Requires a relevant human services degree/diploma and at least two years of experience, ability to work in a team, strong interpersonal and counselling skills, and willingness to undergo a vulnerable sector check. Availability may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts; travel 10-20% with transit or own vehicle; lifting up to 50 lbs.
Required Qualifications
- A relevant degree/diploma in human services
- At least two years of experience working with the client population
- Knowledge of the issues faced by adults with special needs and a marginalized client group
- An understanding of the therapeutic relationship with an ability to negotiate with clients on goals and priorities
- Experience in working as part of a team of professionals, and in conducting meetings or facilitating groups
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and counselling skills
- Computer literacy sufficient to produce and maintain files, records or statistical information
- Written skills are used in keeping records or updating logs
- A satisfactory vulnerable sector check (VSC) is required
