Residential Support Counselor (Benny House)

Job Summary

Monitor and support residents' behavior using trauma-informed care and positive reinforcement techniques. Implement individualized behavioral support plans to promote skill-building and assist with daily living activities including hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks. Provide direct supervision, mentoring, and crisis intervention using approved Physical/Psychological Management Training (PMT) techniques while organizing structured therapeutic and recreational activities. Transport residents to medical appointments and community programs, maintaining accurate records in the Electronic Health Record system. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clinical staff to ensure consistent support. Follow established procedures for emergencies, illnesses, and crisis situations, including mandatory reporting and documentation. Secure the facility by performing safety checks and monitoring medication storage. Work additional hours, including mandated overtime, to ensure adequate staffing levels and continuity of care.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year working with individuals with emotional, behavioral, or developmental disabilities in a residential or community setting
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet transportation requirements as needed
  • Ability to complete and maintain relevant certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR, crisis intervention)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to be on feet for extended periods
  • Must be flexible to work across various educational, residential, and group home settings as needed
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist individuals with daily living activities
  • Must be able to perform all requirements of physical management techniques (PMT)
  • Must be available for early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, mandated overtime, and on call responsibilities

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, criminal justice, or a related human services field
