Job Summary
Complete admission procedures including paperwork, urinalysis collection, and searching belongings for forbidden items. Administer tuberculosis skin tests, manage withdrawal symptoms, and provide medically monitored evaluation in the Detoxification Unit. Document nursing assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes while maintaining accurate Medication Administration Records. Provide direct care, emotional support through counseling, and referrals for unmet needs. Consult with staff and outside professionals to ensure comprehensive care, establishing professional boundaries with clients.
Required Qualifications
- Must hold an unrestricted LVN/RN license in the state of Texas
- Requires current certifications in CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens
- Must pass State of Texas criminal background and driving record checks
- Ability to work a varied schedule to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
- Must be able to physically respond to individuals' needs in the event of a crisis situation
- Must have strong leadership, team building and communication skills
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodation where applicable
- Good verbal and written communication skills required
- Knowledge of the Code of Ethics for nurses
- Knowledge of the federal drug and alcohol confidentiality law (42 C.F.R. Part 2) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
Desired Qualifications
- Prefer 1 year of detox, emergency or med-surge nursing experience
- Prefer working knowledge of medical detoxification for substance abuse
- Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of substance intoxication and withdrawal including pharmacological factors
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work with a diverse population
- Knowledge of the American Society of Addiction Medicine placement criteria and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual as it relates to substance-related disorders or able to acquire the knowledge
