Job Summary
Coordinate scheduling and attend medical appointments for group home residents while providing ongoing communication with physicians regarding health care. Monitor accuracy of medication administration by comparing orders with records and labels, then implement physician orders completely and accurately with follow-up care for illnesses, accidents, and seizures. Initiate pharmacy communication to ensure timely medication delivery and maintain written summaries of nursing contacts and medical files in compliance with State Board of Health and Medicaid requirements. Administer vaccines and tests as scheduled, including HEP-B and TB screenings, and provide initial and ongoing training to personnel on medical techniques, universal precautions, and seizure management. Respond to medical emergencies and concerns arising outside regular working hours, participate in interdisciplinary team progress reports and agency committees, and conduct physical examinations of residents.
Required Qualifications
- Certified as a Licensed Nurse
- possession of a current Indiana license in nursing
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to make practical application of PDR, State Board of Health, EDS/Medicaid Review criteria and other applicable regulations regarding health care
- Ability to successfully obtain certification in Core A & B (state-mandated medication administration curriculum)
- Ability to successfully obtain certification in TB skin test administration
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, both alone and with others in team environment, often under time pressure
- Ability to work on several tasks at the same time
- Ability to read and interpret physician orders
- Ability to read and interpret lab reports
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and reports
- Ability to interact appropriately and effectively communicate orally and in writing with other agency personnel, residents and their families/guardians and other health care providers
- Ability to be sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities
- Ability to conduct physical examinations of residents
- Ability to grasp and carry objects
- Ability to bend at the waist
- Ability to crouch and kneel
- Ability to provide assistance to residents
- Ability to lift residents
- Ability to observe behavior of residents
- Ability to respond swiftly, rationally and decisively to emergency situations
- Ability to work irregular and/or extended hours
- Possession of a valid driver's license
