Job Summary

Residential Child Care Investigator I conducts investigations of alleged abuse/neglect and emergencies involving children in licensed and unlicensed facilities, foster homes, and related settings. The role involves coordinating with supervisors and external agencies to take corrective actions, documenting findings, assessing needs to develop service plans, interviewing children, parents, caregivers, and collateral witnesses, and preparing legal documentation and testimony for court. Knowledge and skills include laws related to child care and protective services, crisis intervention, interviewing, report writing, and collaboration with HHSC and partner agencies. The position requires travel, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work under supervision while contributing to protective services goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Accredited bachelor’s degree OR accredited associate degree plus two years of relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two years of relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one year of relevant work experience; current or former Child Protective Investigations (CPI) Worker IVs are eligible for the Residential Child Care Investigator I position.
