Job Summary
Foster a welcoming environment for clients at the new all-female shelter in the Bronx by completing intakes, coordinating recreational activities, and monitoring visitor logs. Collaborate with supervisors using Safe Crisis Management to respond to incidents, prepare daily census reports, and support meal service and inventory checks. Ensure client safety through daily activity monitoring, curfew tracking, and escorting residents to appointments as needed. This full-time evening shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM) requires flexibility for weekends and schedule adjustments.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, HSE, or GED
- Food Handler's Certification
- willingness to obtain Food Handler's Certification within 3 months
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a shelter, security, customer service, or healthcare setting
- Strong crisis intervention, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- ability to respond effectively to urgent situations
- Basic computer proficiency
- strong organizational abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- ability to work respectfully with clients from diverse backgrounds
- ability to work weekends
- flexibility to adjust hours based on the operational needs of the site
Desired Qualifications
- prior experience providing compassionate care to vulnerable populations
- Experience working in a homeless shelter
- Experience working with mental illness
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
