Job Summary
Provide advocacy, information, and referral services to participants staying in emergency shelters; supervise shelter activities to ensure safety; facilitate crisis intervention; maintain logs and participant records; perform urinalysis and breathalyzer testing when requested; ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the facility; coordinate with agency staff; attend meetings; and complete required trainings (First Aid/CPR/AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, Narcan). Flexible to rotate through Post Positions; includes potential temporary reassignment and transportation reimbursement. Requires ability to work in a shelter setting with adults experiencing poverty or homelessness; preferred bilingual English/Spanish.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of consistent work experience (in any field), equivalent educational qualifications may be considered in place of work experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness, chemical dependency, domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently. Ability to appropriately assess a situation and take corrective action.
- Knowledge of services available to low-income and homeless persons in Multnomah County through Transition Projects and other agencies or the demonstrated ability to obtain such knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to provide crisis intervention and to follow procedure in crisis situations.
- Written and verbal communication skills. Good computer skills. Ability to use web-based data collection program.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
