Job Summary
Create a nurturing learning environment and develop strategies to help clients cope with daily living situations while facilitating independent performance. Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes daily, report incidents within 24 hours, and administer medication once certified. Implement Individual Plans of Care, record teaching strategies, and assist with medical appointments and follow-through. Plan, purchase, and prepare meals within budget while maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of the house, property, and vehicle. Conduct community outings ensuring safety measures are followed and utilize the agency vehicle for transportation. Provide accurate accounting of petty cash and client funds, maintain confidentiality, and participate in required training. Work Sunday through Wednesday from 3pm to 9pm, with Friday shifts until 11pm. A valid CT driver's license and experience in human services are required.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to lift and transfer 70-75lbs
- Must be able to utilize approved protective hold techniques
- Must possess a valid CT driver's license
- Must have a good driving record
- Must have reliable transportation
- Possess organizational abilities to implement programs and services designed to enhance the individual's learning process
- Possess self-motivation
- Display patience, encouraging attitude, optimism, energy, communication skills, and a nurturing temperament
- Have the ability to perform active work, both inside and outside of the program
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrate organizational ability, experience and ability to communicate effectively with persons with developmental disabilities
- Demonstrate some knowledge of educational and behavioral programs
- Demonstrate willingness to learn about current issues in the field of developmental disabilities
- Be able to communicate with people at various ability levels
- A high school diploma or GED
- At least two years of experience in the field of Human Services
- A Bachelor's degree in a related Human Services area in addition to experience
