Job Summary
Resident Field Technician responsibilities include managing customer base and assigned territory, scheduling all customer work, and generating new business while maintaining customer relations. Conducts machine performance and diagnostic tests, interprets results, and independently determines the extent of repairs. Repairs machines and attachments in the field or at customer sites, often with overtime and overnight assignments, and documents service reports and time entries via laptop. Uses STW, SIS, and ET for addressing technical issues; adheres to TRG standards and safety policies. Requires knowledge of Caterpillar machine systems to troubleshoot and repair new equipment models, and may participate in training and strategic initiatives. Strong emphasis on customer service, professional conduct on-site, ability to self-schedule, travel as needed, and ability to work overtime with minimal notice. Must own tools and possess a valid CDL with air brake experience. Physical requirements include standing, lifting, climbing, and exposure to extreme temperatures. This role is safety-sensitive.
Required Qualifications
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Associates Degree or technical training from an accredited vocational school preferred
- Five years experience in diagnosis and repair of heavy equipment
- Knowledge of scrapers and crawler tractors, loaders, excavators, off highway trucks, preferred; Caterpillar experience preferred
- Must own required tools
- Must have a current CDL with air brake experience and acceptable driving record; meet DOT requirements
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English)
